Creating a Brighter Future Through the Photographer’s Lens
Did you know that 1.2 trillion photos were taken worldwide in 2021 and 1.72 trillion in 2022? Did you know that number will increase to 1.81 trillion in 2023 and by 2025, more than 2 trillion photos will be taken each year? (Statistical data provided by Photutorial). Photographs create records for important milestones in global events, our community and our lives.
BBS is pleased to introduce and support Photo Start, global 501©(3) nonprofit headquartered in New York, New York.
Photo Start is dedicated to creating a bright future for children worldwide and allowing them to tell their unique stories through the photographer’s lens. They are a network of photographers, artists, teachers, and volunteers worldwide, working to empower under-resourced young people to imagine, create, and choose their future.
Founded in 2016, they use applied learning techniques to teach students digital photography and visual storytelling to equip them with needed 21st Century skills to thrive as learners, workers, and global citizens. They partner with grassroots local community organizations around the globe to offer their free photography programs (DSLR or smartphones) to youth between the ages 12-25.
Their Mission:
“Provide applied learning experiences that give students the courage to reframe their stories, develop as leaders, and become agents of change in their communities. We do this by engaging, educating, and elevating young people in marginalized areas around the globe through the art and business of photography.”
Their Vision:
“To develop skills and inspire confidence in young people, creating a greater impact now and for future generations.”
The demand for their programming grows exponentially each year and donations received through their BBS page will be used for the purpose of supporting more children in under-resourced communities and providing them with the educational opportunity to pursue their dreams and share with us their stories.

Why Photography?
Photography is universal ~ it transcends language, culture, social class, location, etc.; It is adaptable and inclusive, enabling all learners to participate in a safe environment.
Photography incorporates visual and kinesthetic learning coupled with practical, technical, and creative skills allowing students to find constructive ways to express themselves and process challenging circumstances.
Using photo exchange, Photo Start promotes cross-cultural learning and connections between program partners to create dialogue to see the similarities and differences in their lives and communities.
100% of your donation will go to the cause you support.
