SPEAK's Food for Peace Initiative

SPEAK, a refugee-led non-profit organization, is dedicated to making a positive impact in northern Uganda. Their mission extends across the Adjumani District, reaching out to both refugees and host communities. They focus on vital areas such as peace building, entrepreneurship, and environmental protection, striving to create a better future for all.

Food for Peace - Cultivating Hope: At the heart of SPEAK's efforts lies the signature program, "Food for Peace." This initiative brings together refugee women to unite in practicing climate-smart agriculture, enabling them to support their families and communities effectively. By promoting sustainable agricultural practices, the aim is to enhance food security, reduce environmental impact, and empower women to lead change.

Volunteer Opportunity Overview: SPEAK recognizes that to achieve their mission, they need expertise from agronomists and technical agriculture experts. They are in search of individuals passionate about agriculture, crop rotation, soil management, and water conservation. Your knowledge can be instrumental in helping refugee women build a sustainable future for themselves.

What You'll Do:

  • Share your expertise in crop rotation, soil usage, and water collection to promote climate-smart agriculture.
  • Provide guidance and advice to SPEAK's community of refugee women working on Food for Peace.
  • Collaborate with other experts to create a network of experts dedicated to supporting this vital cause.

Requirements:

  • Proficiency in English.
  • A passion for sustainable agriculture and a desire to make a difference.

Volunteer Format: Your valuable contributions can be made online through platforms like Microsoft Teams, Zoom, or similar tools. This flexibility allows you to connect with our team and refugee communities from the comfort of your own space.
