Igniting Hope for Zambia’s Children Through Education

Welcome to Charity Centre for Children and Youth Development (CCCYD), a beacon of hope and transformation nestled in the heart of Zambia’s Solwezi District. Since its inception in 2005, CCCYD has been a steadfast advocate for change, tirelessly working to uplift the lives of orphans and vulnerable children in the region through equal access to education.

At the core of their mission is a powerful belief – that every child deserves a chance to dream and realize their potential, regardless of their social or economic circumstances. In a landscape shaped by the challenges of HIV/AIDS and economic hardship, CCCYD emerged as a community-driven response, a catalyst for positive change, and a provider of opportunities that can break the cycle of poverty.

A Glimpse into Their Work

Educational Support for Orphans & Vulnerable Children (OVC) – Illiteracy and poverty cast a shadow over Solwezi District and the wider northwestern province. CCCYD established a school for orphan and vulnerable children, offering a haven of learning for 400 young minds from grades one to seven. Through education, they are breaking down barriers and creating a brighter future for these children.

Vocational & Life-skills Training for Vulnerable Youths – Unemployment among young people is a formidable challenge. CCCYD recognizes that vocational skills are a pathway to self-sufficiency and community development. They’ve embarked on a journey to provide vocational skills training, empowering 1,000 vulnerable youths by 2026.

Support for Girls’ Education – Girls often face unique obstacles that hinder their access to education. CCCYD believes in levelling the playing field. They’re providing post-secondary scholarships to 100 vulnerable girls, offering them a chance to shape their futures on their terms.

One of CCCYD’s proudest achievements is the establishment of the Fortune School of Excellence in 2017. This haven of learning has welcomed over 900 orphaned and vulnerable children, providing them with primary education and essential vocational skills. However, their journey doesn’t end here.

We’ve witnessed first-hand the transformative power of education and are committed to helping expand CCCYD’s school to meet the growing needs of their community. With the Embassy of Australia’s support, they erected an additional school block in 2018. Now, as they strive to realize their 2026 objectives, they are embarking on a new endeavour – constructing another school block that will not only accommodate more students but also foster an environment of learning excellence.

Charting a Path to Progress

CCCYD has set its sights high, with ambitious goals that will shape the lives of 2,000 vulnerable children and youth by 2026:

Strategy 1: Raising literacy levels among vulnerable youth by 40% in the Humphrey Mulemba area by 2026 through primary and secondary education promotion.

Strategy 2: Empowering 1,000 vulnerable children and youths with self-reliance vocational skills by 2026.

Strategy 3: Supporting 100 vulnerable girls with post-secondary scholarships within the next 3 years.
