For more than six years, Business for Better Society (BBS) has proudly partnered with Remember Youth for Change (RYC) in the Democratic Republic of Congo, supporting initiatives that empower young people, strengthen communities, and deliver humanitarian assistance during times of immense hardship.
Today, we are once again standing beside our partner and the people of eastern DR Congo as the threat of Ebola rises in Goma and surrounding communities already devastated by conflict, displacement, and poverty.
The conditions facing vulnerable families and displaced youth are deeply concerning. In overcrowded and low-income communities where access to clean water, sanitation, and healthcare is limited, the risk of rapid transmission is severe. Prevention is not optional. It is the only shield these communities have.
As the threat of Ebola rises in Goma, Remember Youth for Change is launching an urgent response to protect vulnerable displaced youth and families living in communities affected by war and instability. Their teams are working tirelessly to rapidly deploy emergency handwashing stations, distribute hygiene supplies, and lead youth-driven public health education campaigns aimed at preventing the spread of disease before an outbreak escalates further.
However, this crisis is unfolding at a time when international humanitarian systems are under enormous strain. The reduction and withdrawal of critical funding from USAID and other foreign government bodies is already having a devastating impact on frontline organizations across the region. Community-led groups like RYC are being asked to do more with fewer resources, despite being among the most trusted and effective responders on the ground.
We have seen firsthand the impact RYC can make. Together, our organisations have previously delivered humanitarian aid to communities in crisis, and we know that local leadership saves lives. But local organizations cannot carry this burden alone.
We urgently call on donors, businesses, and individuals to stand with Remember Youth for Change and support their emergency response efforts.
