The devastating humanitarian situation unfolding in Goma and across eastern Democratic Republic of Congo fills all of us at Business for Better Society with profound sadness and deep concern. We are particularly concerned for the youth whose futures are being shaped by this conflict, and for all those seeking safety in refugee camps – the elderly, unaccompanied children, adults, and families who have been forced to flee their homes. This weighs especially heavily on our hearts as we think of our partners and friends at Remember Youth for Change, with whom we have worked closely to support these vulnerable populations across the region.
Through our partnership with Remember Youth for Change, we have witnessed firsthand the incredible resilience of Goma’s communities, especially its young people. Their dedication to building a better future, even in the face of immense challenges, has been truly inspiring. The current crisis threatens not only their safety but also the progress we have made together in providing opportunities and support for vulnerable youth.
We call upon Western governments to take immediate and decisive action to help end this conflict. The international community must step up its diplomatic and humanitarian efforts to protect civilians and create conditions for lasting peace in eastern DRC. The people of Goma and the surrounding region have endured far too much suffering, and they deserve our full support and attention.
Business for Better Society remains committed to our partnership with Remember Youth for Change. When stability returns to Goma, we will be ready to resume and expand our collaborative work supporting youth and displaced communities. The foundation we have built together is strong, and we look forward to continuing our shared mission of creating positive change in the region.
In this difficult time, our thoughts and prayers are with everyone affected by this crisis – our partners, the youth we serve, and all residents of Goma and eastern DRC. We stand in solidarity with you and remain hopeful for a swift return to peace and stability in your community.
