Welcome to the latest Field Notes! We are thrilled to announce that July 12th, 2023, marks the annual GlobalGiving campaign. During this special event, all donations received for any of the BBS projects will be eligible for a generous match. The amount of the match depends on the original donation, ranging from US$100 to an incredible US$1,000.
Before the campaign kicks off, we wanted to address some frequently asked questions from our donors. We believe in transparency and want to ensure that our community is well-informed about the BBS structure, donation allocation, our partnership with GlobalGiving, reporting practices, and the projects participating in the July Bonus Day.
What is the BBS operational structure?
Business for Better Society, commonly known as BBS, is a registered charity in Hong Kong. We are proud to inform you that our due diligence with the respective Hong Kong authorities is in order, and we are considered to be in good standing. Additionally, as a Hong Kong charity, we undergo an annual independent audit of our books, which are filed before November 11th each year.
How much of my donation goes to what I have chosen to donate to?
We understand the importance of ensuring your donation directly supports the cause you’ve chosen to champion. That’s why we are committed to allocating 100% of your received donation to the specific project you’ve selected. Your support goes directly towards making a positive impact.
Why does BBS belong to GlobalGiving?
In March 2020, BBS became a permanent partner of GlobalGiving. GlobalGiving is registered in both the United States and the United Kingdom, allowing donors from these countries to receive official tax receipts. Beyond providing efficient donation mechanisms, GlobalGiving has been a wonderful platform for raising awareness about the exceptional work carried out by small non-profit organizations. It also offers professional development learning sessions, benefiting those working in the sector.
How does BBS report back to donors?
As a permanent partner of GlobalGiving, BBS is committed to providing regular updates to our donors. We will send quarterly email updates on the progress of the projects you’ve supported, accompanied by a few photos. Additionally, you can access previous reports for each project in the reports tab on their respective pages. For more immediate updates, including photos and videos, we encourage you to follow our Facebook page.
What are the GlobalGiving matches on July 12th?
The GlobalGiving matches on July 12th are based on a sliding scale. Depending on the amount of your donation, you can receive a match of up to US$500! Please refer to the graphic accompanying this post for detailed information about the matching scale. The matching will begin at 9:00 am Eastern and conclude at 11:59 pm.
Where can I review the BBS projects participating in the July Bonus Day?
We are delighted to have three projects participating in the July Bonus Day. These projects include our microbusiness incubator in Kenya, the Javari Project in the Vale do Javari region of the Amazon, and a project through PhotoStart that aims to empower 200 youth through their programs.
