Dear Friends,
It is with a heavy heart that I write to share our profound grief at Business for Better Society following the tragic lightning strike at Sserinya Community Primary School in Sserinya, Uganda. This devastating incident has deeply affected the school community we have come to know and cherish.
We are especially heartbroken by the loss of Moses Mutaawe, an exceptional educator whose passion for teaching and devotion to his students exemplified the transformative power of education. Having visited Sserinya Primary School twice, I had the privilege of witnessing the extraordinary dedication of their teaching staff, including Mr. Mutaawe’s remarkable commitment to nurturing young minds.
Our thoughts are with head teacher Florence Nambalirwa, teacher Rose Nakitto, and the fifteen pupils who were injured in this tragic event. We are relieved to hear that many students are recovering and wish them all a complete and speedy return to health.
We extend our deepest condolences to Mr. Mutaawe’s family, friends, and all who were touched by his caring presence.
We are reaching out to school leadership to identify how we can best support the community during this difficult time. As we have always believed, our commitment to our partners extends far beyond ordinary circumstances—it is in challenging moments that meaningful support matters most.
With heartfelt sympathy,
Kelly Brantner
Chief Executive Officer
