The one thing that is certain in today’s world is change. On behalf of Educating Girls of Rural China (EGRC), we are sharing the following important notice from Tien Ching, the founder of EGRC.
“As the founder of EGRC, I regret to inform you that after 18 years, EGRC recently ended its work in China due to circumstances outside of our control.
While this situation was unexpected, I want to assure you that all the girls who are currently in our programs will be funded for the 2023-2024 school year by 青青公益发展中心 (Qing Qing Charitable Development Centre) which is an independent Chinese charity established in 2020.
In the future, the current programs in China will be solely managed by 青青公益发展中心. As a Canadian citizen, I do not have a legal role within it, and I am no longer involved and responsible for any of the programs it manages.
I founded EGRC in Canada in 2005. It was truly a personal mission which has developed into a collective effort in China, Canada and across the world. In our 18 years, over 2,000 Chinese rural young women and girls have gone through EGRC’s programs and transformed their lives by achieving an education.
EGRC will continue with the same mission of empowering women through education and develop the programs that EGRC established in 2022. It is to provide scholarships for promising young women from underprivileged backgrounds to pursue global academic and professional studies including master’s programs, summer language and leadership courses, and possible vocational training programs in the future. These program offerings will not be limited to EGRC alumni and, in the future, may include young women from other countries in Asia.
On behalf of all the EGRC girls and the EGRC board of directors, I sincerely thank you for your loyal support. Your generosity has transformed the lives of many young women. The impact we created together in the past 18 years will affect generations to come.
Change is inevitable, and change will bring new opportunities. There is still so much to do to advance women. I encourage you to continue to support our future endeavours.
