As we mark the first anniversary of the Mother and Child Care Centre (MCC) in the rural community of Ndegeya, we celebrate a year of transformation in maternal and child healthcare, made possible through the dedicated support and guidance of the Laudara Foundation.
Laudara Foundation is committed to improving the quality of life in underserved communities through compassionate healthcare, education, and sustainable development. Their work is built on four core pillars:
- Healthcare Access – Ensuring essential medical services reach vulnerable populations.
- Education and Skills Development – Equipping communities with knowledge and skills to thrive.
- Economic Empowerment – Supporting pathways out of poverty through entrepreneurship and opportunity.
- Sustainable Community Development – Building initiatives that last for generations.
The MCC in Ndegeya is a direct expression of these values, blending medical excellence with community-centred care.
From Vision to Reality
When the centre began quietly providing services in June 2024, few could have foreseen the profound impact it would have on this close-knit rural community. The official opening celebration on October 19, 2024, brought together the surrounding villages in a moment that signified not just the launch of a facility, but the start of a healthier future.
The celebration served as both a community milestone and an educational opportunity, with villagers learning about the comprehensive maternal, child, and family health services now available locally.
Beyond Safe Births: A Comprehensive Approach
While safe deliveries remain at the heart of the MCC’s mission, the centre and adjoining Community Clinic have evolved into a full-scale community health hub. Modern equipment and skilled health professionals have enabled life-saving interventions that once required risky travel to distant hospitals. Antenatal check-ups, nutritional guidance, and early detection programs have shifted the approach from reactive to proactive healthcare.
Game Changing Innovation
With the Laudara Foundation’s backing, the MCC has been able to integrate Butterfly iQ+ portable ultrasound technology, a game changer in rural maternal care. Unlike traditional ultrasound machines that require patients to travel to distant hospitals, the Butterfly iQ+ allows skilled healthcare providers to perform scans right in the community. This means:
-
Earlier detection of complications such as breech positioning, multiple pregnancies, or placenta issues.
-
Immediate decision-making during emergencies, reducing delays that can be life-threatening for both mothers and babies.
-
Greater access for remote patients, as the device is portable enough to be used in outreach clinics.
The result is a dramatic improvement in prenatal care, faster intervention when needed, and a higher likelihood of safe deliveries.
Empowering Women, Strengthening Families
Family planning services, combining access to contraception, personalised counselling, and community outreach, are helping women make informed choices about their reproductive health. These programs are breaking down myths, opening conversations, and strengthening families and communities.
The Anniversary Initiative: New Mom Packages
To mark the first anniversary, Laudara has launched New Mom Packages, designed to provide essential supplies for newborn care during those critical early months.
Bundle options:
- Package Laugh ($25 USD) – Baby clothes, bed sheets, diapers, soap, shampoo, vaseline, soya porridge, underwear, detergent.
- Package Dare ($40 USD) – Everything in Essential, plus washing soap for mom and a mosquito net.
- Package Raise Up ($60 USD) – Expanded clothing and bedding, plus a mosquito net for full support.
Donations can be made directly through the Laudara Foundation’s website, selecting the Mother and Child Care Centre from the project list.
Investing in Uganda’s Future
The Ndegeya MCC represents more than a medical facility; it’s a foundation for healthier futures. Every safe birth, every thriving child, and every empowered mother strengthens the fabric of the community.
As we look ahead to year two and beyond, BBS is excited to see what the future holds for the MCC and the Laudara Foundation. Their partnership with the community stands as a powerful example of how care, compassion, and collaboration can spark lasting transformation.
