At Business for Better Society, we believe that when women rise, entire communities thrive. That’s why we are proud to announce the newest intake into our microbusiness incubator program for women in Homa Bay, Kenya—a program designed to break the cycle of generational poverty through entrepreneurship.
In early May, 18 courageous and determined young women, all in their 20s, gathered for their orientation to begin the journey of transforming their lives. Some are young single mothers, others have been directly impacted by HIV/AIDS, and many have come from difficult domestic situations. While their individual paths have varied, they all share a common goal: to create a better future for themselves and their families through business ownership.
These inspiring women have joined a growing movement. Since the program’s launch, more than 150 women have started their own businesses with support from the incubator. This initiative goes far beyond training—it provides the practical tools and mentorship needed to succeed.
Each participant will take part in the acclaimed Street Business School curriculum, delivered by certified trainers, to build their entrepreneurial and financial literacy. They will also receive a small start-up grant and ongoing coaching, helping them to turn their business ideas into reality with guidance every step of the way.
And the results speak volumes.
Based on data collected through the Street Business School Impact Tracker, a 120% increase in household income among participants has been recorded. Two of the most significant areas where this increased income is being invested are school fees for their children and healthcare for their families—clear indicators of long-term positive change driven by empowered women.
We see firsthand how economic opportunity can create lasting impact. For the women of Homa Bay, this incubator is more than just a program—it’s a lifeline, a spark of hope, and a catalyst for self-reliance. As they learn to manage their finances, grow their enterprises, and build supportive networks, they become powerful agents of change within their families and communities.
To our newest cohort: we are inspired by your strength, moved by your dreams, and honoured to walk alongside you on this transformative journey.
Stay tuned for updates as we follow their progress, share their stories, and celebrate their successes. Together, we’re not just building businesses—we’re building a better society.
