Business for Better Society is excited to share an important update about one of our valued partners in promoting education and literacy in Afghanistan. Canadian Women for Women in Afghanistan, an organization we’ve worked closely with since 2018, has officially changed its name to Right to Learn Afghanistan as of September 1, 2024.
This rebranding reflects the organization’s unwavering commitment to making education a fundamental right for Afghan women and girls. While the name has changed, the mission remains as crucial as ever, especially in light of recent challenges to women’s education in the country.
Our Shared History
In 2018, Business for Better Society launched a significant literacy and library program in Badakhshan, Afghanistan, with the invaluable support of Canadian Women for Women in Afghanistan (now Right to Learn Afghanistan). This initiative aimed to improve access to educational resources and promote literacy in a region where such opportunities were scarce.
Continuing the Mission
The transition to Right to Learn Afghanistan underscores the organisation’s focus on education as a cornerstone of empowerment and social progress. Despite the current ban on women and girls over 12 attending secondary schools and universities in Afghanistan, Right to Learn Afghanistan continues to find innovative ways to provide educational opportunities.
Some of their ongoing initiatives include:
- Virtual learning platforms
- Online English language courses
- Collaboration with international universities
- Support for displaced Afghan educators
Looking Forward
The new name, Right to Learn Afghanistan, perfectly encapsulates the core belief that education is not a privilege, but a fundamental human right. We look forward to continuing our collaboration with Right to Learn Afghanistan, supporting their mission to make education accessible to all Afghan women and girls. Together, we can work towards a future where every individual has the opportunity to learn, grow, and contribute to their society.
